FAQ

  • How do I use the site? How do I create MyLeaf?

For first time users, we’ve automatically loaded a default printout (MyLeaf) of two pages for you.

To add content to your MyLeaf, select the desired age group in the orange Content pane (Adults, Kids), then proceed to select the content (Sudoku, Crossword, …) and click and drag the size (Small, Medium, Large), number (Five, Ten, … ), or level of difficulty (Easy, Medium, Hard) into the white print pane.

In the print pane, you can move, resize, minimize, refresh, or remove each content box to your liking. After you’ve arranged your content, you can hit the “Print” button which will show you a preview of your printout.

Members who’ve signed in can save their MyLeaf as a PDF file on their computer with the “Save PDF” button or “Save” the layout of their MyLeaf such that next time they login, the puzzles will appear exactly the way they personalized it. If you’re not a member, register an account with us, it’s absolutely free.

  • Why can’t I see the words in the Crossword puzzles? Why are the words or images fuzzy?

All content can be resized by dragging on the diagonal hash marks located in the bottom right corner of each content box. The words may appear fuzzy or distorted online but will print clearly.

  • How come the “Save” button doesn’t save the content in MyLeaf?

The “Save” button saves the layout of your MyLeaf, meaning the next time you login or hit the “Refresh” button in your browser, new content will appear exactly the way you personalized it.

To save your MyLeaf as is, content and layout, you must first install Primo PDF, http://www.primopdf.com , a free but powerful PDF utility. PDF, or Portable Document Format, is a format that enables a document to be distributed on different computers while preserving the layout.

Once installed, you can save your MyLeaf by choosing “Primo PDF” as the printer you’d like to print to, and then selecting the “Print” radio button. That’s it!

  • Where are the solutions for the puzzles? What if I don’t want to print the solutions?

Solutions to puzzles load on the opposite side of the page. For example, if you drag and drop a Sudoku Easy puzzle onto the “Front Page”, the answer will appear on the “Back Page”.

If you don’t want to print the solution you can save your MyLeaf in PDF or you can simply minimize the content box by clicking the dash ‘-‘ or the ‘X’ to remove the box. Once you remove the answer, however, you’ll be unable to retrieve it again.

Connect the Dots and Word Search puzzles do not have solutions

If you don’t want to print the solution you can simply minimize the content box by clicking the dash ‘-‘ or the ‘X’ to remove the box. Once you remove the answer, however, you’ll be unable to retrieve it again.

You can also save your MyLeaf in PDF, but you must first install Primo PDF,http://www.primopdf.com , a free but powerful PDF utility. PDF, or Portable Document Format, is a format that enables a document to be distributed on different computers while preserving the layout.

  • What is Sudoku and how do I play it?

Sudoku is a logic-based numbers puzzle. The objective is to fill in the empty squares so that the numbers 1 through 9 occur exactly once in each row, column, and each of the nine 3x3 boxes. The numbers can appear in any order and diagonals are not considered. Your initial game board will consist of several numbers that are already placed. Those numbers cannot be changed. • What is Kakuro and how do I play it?

Kakuro puzzles resemble a crossword puzzle which use numbers instead of words and is a bit tougher than Sudoku. The aim of the game is to fill all the blank white squares in the grid with only the numbers 1 through 9 so that the numbers you enter add up to the corresponding clues, horizontally and vertically. However, no number can be duplicated in an entry, meaning a clue of 6 (over 2 squares) could be 1 and 5 (or vice versa of course), 2 and 4, but not 3 and 3. • What is Cipher and how do I play it?

Cipher puzzles are encrypted phrases in which each letter represents another letter. The object is to decode the masked phrase.

Three general approaches exist in helping decode the phrases. The simplest and most time consuming method is trial and error. The second is to spot patterns, especially single-letter words which tend to only be ‘A’ or ‘I’ (or ‘O’ albeit rarely). Then there are a limited number of two-letter words such as “AN”, “AS”, “AT”, “HE”, “IN”, “IS”, “IT”, “ME,” “TO”, “US”, “WE”, etc.

Finally you can use letter frequency to help solve a difficult puzzle. The twelve most frequently-used letters in the English language are ‘E’, ‘T’, ‘A’, ‘O’, ‘I’, ‘N’, ‘S’, ‘H’, ‘R’, ‘D’, ‘L’, in that order. The least common letters are ‘J’, ‘X’, ‘Q’, ‘Z’. If you notice a certain letter being used constantly chances are that its deciphered form will be one of the ‘E’, ‘T’, ‘A’ group.

Finally, something to look for is the common “TH”- words, like “THE”, “THEN”, “THEY”, “THERE”, “THEIR”, and “THAT”.

  • How come the Kakuro puzzle prints without the gray background or diagonals?

If you’re using a version of Internet Explorer, open the “Tools” menu in Internet Explorer, select “Internet Options”, switch to the “Advanced” tab and enable “Print background colors and images” in the “Printing” section.

    ie

If you’re using Firefox select “File” found in the top left corner of the browser, scroll down to “Page Setup”, and enable the Options checkbox “Print Background (colors & images)”.

  • How come the Kakuro puzzles print out as an empty box?

Browsers don’t let us automatically print the background of the Kakuro puzzle, so you can “Save PDF” and then print or follow the steps below:

If you’re using a version of Internet Explorer, open the “Tools” menu in Internet Explorer, select “Internet Options”, switch to the “Advanced” tab and enable “Print background colors and images” in the “Printing” section.

  • How do I get rid of the header and footers on the printed page?

In Internet Explorer 7 you can click the down arrow alongside the “Printer” icon and scroll to “Page Setup”.

From there it’s the same steps as IE6 below:

For Internet Explorer 6, go to “File,” “Page Setup”, and then cut the text in the “Headers and Footers” text boxes. The default for header is “&w&bPage &p of &P” and for footer “&u&b&d” if you need to put it back later.

If you’re using Firefox select “File” found in the top left corner, scroll down to “Page Setup”, and click on the tab labeled “Margins & Header/Footer”. Here in the Headers & Footers section you can either leave them “blank” or the desired setting.

  • Why does the site take long to load?

If you have transferred or printed a picture from your camera to your computer you probably will have noticed how large the file size is, and that’s simply because the larger the file, the higher quality the picture and print. Now this isn’t necessarily always the case, but the site may take longer to load because we want to ensure a good quality printout.

  • Why do I get keep getting the same puzzle number? What do the numbers mean?

The numbers are there to differentiate between two of the same type of puzzle, but by no means does it mean they are the same puzzle. For example, if you drag two Sudoku Easy Puzzles, one will be labeled “Sudoku Easy #2” and the other “Sudoku Easy #3”. The number keeps incrementing for the current session, but the next you login the numbers will reset back to 1.

  • I went through all the puzzles, will there be new content?

Sudoku, Kakuro, and Maze puzzles are generated on the fly so you should have an “infinite” amount to choose from. Crosswords and Cipher puzzles are supplied on a weekly basis, so new puzzles for the week are loaded into our site Saturday night. The rest of the content is currently in limited supply though Riddles and Trivia should be in the thousands. If you’ve already completed the other puzzles hold tight and we’ll get new content ASAP.
